KIHT interviews the Two Brits
Here at Kiht, we love to follow inspiring women who are doing great things in the industry. We have been fan girls of the Two Brits for a while now. We love their fun take on fitness, and also love that they work out together!
We interviewed them for our blog to find out more about them and their story which has taken them to a successful blogging duo.
Annie and Rach make up the duo that is Two Brits.
Guys, we love your blog and profiles you guys look like you have so much fun together, but tell us more about yourselves and how you both met?
Awww thank you so much, we really are two crazy best friends who love having fun and we are always laughing!
We met at school, well, actually the sixth form; as Rach joined the school that Annie was already attending. We got chatting in food technology class and then realised we both had free periods on a Monday afternoon so started taking the train home together and our friendship just blossomed.
Annie works for a mental health company training staff on IT systems and Rach works at Disney head office.
How do you guys fit in working and blogging together? and also how do you find the drive to keep at it when you both have a lot of commitments?
When we are not working at our day jobs we spend the rest of the time blogging. 95% of our weekends have something blog related going on and it's very rare we ever stop working on our blog. We have a to-do list that just seems to grow which is great but it can also become very overwhelming. We are lucky we have each other to talk to and discuss what our priorities are for that week, communication is so important when you are blogging as a pair.
We come home from work only to start work all over again, this time doing something we are so unbelievably passionate about. Seeing our blog grow is enough to keep us motivated even if there are lots of early mornings and late nights involved (the coffee keeps us going).
I find it so important not to stress when our blog has to take a back seat, although it is the last thing we want sometimes it has too.
What inspired you both to start the blog?
We first decided to make an Instagram account to share our crazy and fun lives. We didn't really update it much just posting random posts. We also made our blog on WordPress but again didn't post much. However, after attending a blogging event we decided to take our blog seriously and realised we could do so much more on it. We bought our domain and started Instagramming and posting more regularly. Our blog has just grown from there.
Why did you name it two brits?
We were originally called Three Brits because at the beginning it was us 3 best friends that decided to start the Instagram account. However, our third brit (friend) didn't contribute much and didn't enjoy it as much as us and therefore after much deliberation, we took the plunge and changed our name to Two Brits – there are 2 of us and we live in Britain.
What do you hope to achieve with your blog?
The dream, of course, is to be able to blog full time, however, we have an awful long way to go before we can both pack in our jobs and just focus on Two Brits.
How did you both get into health and fitness?
Rach got into fitness at University where she had a free personal trainer for a year. She then kept it up once graduated and still uses all the exercises her PT taught her.
Annie got into fitness after returning home from University and in the world of work. She didn't like the fact that she was sitting at a desk every day so decided to sign up to the gym.
What are your favourite ways of keeping fit?
This may sound crazy but we LOVE walking, whenever we are together we walk and we walk and we walk. When we are in London we rarely take the train and choose to walk to places instead. When we were on holiday in Paris we literally walked everywhere. We love being outside in the fresh air and catching up and planning blog ideas on a long walk.
We also both love running, we love the feeling after completing a long run and having the wind in your hair.
Do you have a top fitness tip for anyone out there looking to get into fitness?
We believe that any exercise is valuable, even if its just going for a short walk it all counts. As per the above, we love walking and for anyone looking to get into fitness, walking is the best place to start. Find a buddy or go on your own and get out into the open and walk. We also recommend getting a Fitbit or similar and try and do your 10,000 steps a day.
What is the best thing you guys have done this year?
We have both ran half marathons this year. Although we both ran different races it was a wonderful experience for us both and we are looking to enter another one together soon.
What makes you guys both feeling amazing and confident as women?
We love being women and are so proud to be women. We believe in each other and by supporting each other it makes us confident in most of the things we do.
What is this biggest thing you have learned on your journey so far?
We have learned to be ourselves and not to care what other people think. Our friends take the mickey out of our blog and often don't say very nice things about it, but we have learned not to let other people's silly opinions bother us and to keep being the fun best friends that we are, doing something we love and that makes us happy!
Do you have any tips for anyone who thinking about starting a blog?
Our tip would firstly be to just DO IT! You have nothing to lose and it's all free. We would also say don't start too big. When we first had our blog we only had our Instagram and blog itself. Once we had got to grips with those platforms then we made a twitter, YouTube etc. Start with Instagram and the blog first so that you don't get overwhelmed.
